Shop raided by fashion-forward robbers
The gunmen pointed their weapons at the 71-year-old shop owner and instructed him to lie on the floor.
Clothes, cash and a cellphone with a combined value worth hundreds of thousands of rands were stolen during a robbery at a Kitzinger Avenue shop last Wednesday.
Capt Pearl van Staad, spokesperson for the Brakpan SAPS, told the Herald eight men, three of whom were armed with guns, entered the clothing shop at 15:20.
The gunmen pointed their weapons at the 71-year-old shop owner and instructed him to lie on the floor.
“They took his cellphone. They walked through the shop and took expensive clothing, all brand names. They opened the tills and took cash,” she said.

The robbers, who spoke isiZulu, then struck the owner’s son on the head with a pistol after he resisted and started beating him.
The man sustained an injury to his forehead. The gang then left the shop and made their getaway in a white Toyota Quantum.
“The alarm was activated but members from the alarm company only arrived after the suspects left,” said van Staad, adding the shop doesn’t have insurance.
Local Criminal Record Centre, as well as crime office members, attended the scene and a case of business robbery is under investigation. Van Staad stated the shop owner’s injured son was in a stable condition following medical attention.
