Young people educated about drugs
Held under the theme: "Ke Moja, I'm Fine Without Drugs".
The Brakpan Local Drug Action Committee held an awareness campaign at Dalpark Secondary School on Tuesday.
Held under the theme Ke Moja, I’m Fine Without Drugs, learners were addressed by several guest speakers from different organisations and institutions.
The event, which took place from 11:00 to 14:00, started with a motorcade from the Brakpan CBD to the school.
Among those in attendance were representatives from the Gauteng Liquor Board, Gauteng Department of Education, Department of Health, Department of Social Development, the City of Ekurhuleni, EMPD, SAPS, Department of Community Safety, New Life Recovery Centre, Village of Hope, the Witpoort Treatment Centre and various volunteers and brigade members.
“Learners were warned about the dangers of not complying with the school’s code of conduct by Patience Mabena from the Department of Education, as well as about the dangers of substance abuse by recovering addicts from the Witpoort Treatment Centre,” said sector manager Sgt Faith Ntuli from the Brakpan Social Crime Prevention Unit.
Cleo Bodibe-Lushaba from the Gauteng Liquor Board provided learners with a telephone number to call when they see liquor outlets selling alcohol to minors and pregnant women.
The African Youth Development Fund provided musical entertainment, and the event was also attended by community members from the surrounding areas.
