Weekend crime round-up

An overview of crimes reported to Brakpan police from June 3 to 5.

The following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the weekend:

Friday – A case of business robbery was opened after the driver of a gold Toyota Tazz drove off without paying for petrol at a filling station along Prince George Avenue. The driver stopped at the petrol station at 02:30 and asked the attendant to fill up the tank.

When the attendant asked the driver whether he would be paying with cash or by card, an argument between the pair allegedly ensued. The driver then sped off without paying for the petrol which cost R1 417.

• Two business burglaries were reported. A computer monitor, printer and laptop were stolen from a business along Voortrekker Road, and cables were stolen from a company on Lemmer Road in Maryvlei.

• A blue Toyota Fortuner was stolen from Voortrekker Road.

Saturday – Two residential burglaries were reported. In both incidents television sets were stolen. The break-ins occurred at homes along Bertram Street in Sherwood Gardens and Skamel Road in Dalpark.

• Car batteries were stolen from two vehicles parked at an address along Regents Avenue. A radio and other valuables were also stolen from one of the cars.

• A Voortrekker Road business was burgled of electronics.

Sunday – A car parked at the corner of Prince George and Germains avenues was broken into. An attempt was made to steal the car and the vehicle’s ignition system was damaged. The handle on the driver’s side door was also broken.

The perpetrators were interrupted by the vehicle’s owner who was alerted to the break-in by a neighbour who spotted the thieves in action. The victim’s wallet, which contained R3 000 in cash, was stolen from the car’s cubbyhole.

• A woman was robbed of her laptop just after 16:00 while driving along the Main Reef Road detour route near the Plastic City informal settlement.

The victim told police she was driving with the device on her lap when a man reached through the open car window and grabbed it.
