Weekend crime round-up

An overview of crimes reported to Brakpan police from September 2 to 4.

The following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the weekend:

Friday – Two vehicles were stolen. A gold Toyota Etios was stolen from Gardiner Avenue and a silver Ford Ranger bakkie was stolen from Mall@Carnival.

• A car parked at an address along Wordsworth Street in Dalpark was broken into and a laptop in the vehicle was stolen.

Saturday – The driver of a bread delivery truck and his assistant were robbed at gunpoint by a gang of five men.
The pair was attacked as they stopped to make a delivery at an address along 2nd Road in Witpoort Estates at 04:45.

They were robbed of their personal belongings, which included cellphones, cash, a bank card and a wedding ring.
The duo were then driven to a field and forced to unload bread from the truck.

The robbers took some of the bread and left loaves in the field which were picked up by community members after the robbers had fled.

• A white Toyota Fortuner was stolen from Carnival City. The vehicle was later recovered.

• A woman was robbed and held captive for three hours by the occupants of a white Toyota Quantum. The victim boarded the taxi with four male occupants along Farquharson Road in Kenleaf at around 12:30. Shortly after driving off, one of the men grabbed the victim and started choking her.

Another punched her in the face and threatened her with a gun. She was held down and the robbers searched her, taking R800 in cash, her cellphone and bank cards. The robbers withdrew cash from her account and dropped her off in Etwatwa, Benoni.

Sunday – A security guard on duty at a business along Mans Street in Withok Estates was tied up during a robbery. A gang of men gained access to the premises at around midnight and confronted the guard as he patrolled the property.

The victim was threatened with a gun and the intruders tied his hands together with a shoelace. While the guard was ambushed by four men, he saw at least another 11 on the premises. The robbers fled with a generator, grinders, cables and other goods with a combined value of R132 600.

• A blue Toyota Etios was stolen from Hendrik Potgieter Road in Dalview.

• A man was stabbed and robbed along Voortrekker Road at around 15:30.

The victim was attacked by two men, one of whom stabbed him in the hand and arm. The robbers fled with the victim’s cellphone valued at R1 500. The victim received medical treatment at the Far East Rand Hospital. One of the robbers is known to the victim.

• A woman who made use of an e-hailing service was robbed at gunpoint shortly after getting into the vehicle. After requesting a ride at 16:45, the victim was picked up by the driver of a white Toyota Corolla at Mall@Carnival.

As they headed out one of the entrances, the driver stopped and a man got into the car. He pointed a gun at the victim and demanded her cellphone.

He also took R300 cash and the victim’s bank card. The driver went to withdraw cash from the victim’s account at an ATM and the victim was also forced to transfer R1 000 from her account.

She was dropped off along Springs Road.
