Standing together in the fight against crime
Community and law enforcement band together for the good of the town.
The Brakpan SAPS monthly stakeholders meeting was held in the Rio Rooms at Carnival City last Wednesday.
Local police meet with community members, civic organisations, law enforcement agencies, the security industry and other stakeholders once a month to find solutions to fighting crime together.
Points of discussion included illegal mining, tampering with infrastructure and general crime.

It was reported Brakpan is still experiencing high cases of hijackings, business robberies and armed robberies.
Feedback was also given on the recent Okae Molao operation conducted in Brakpan.
Roadblocks, saturation patrols and raids were carried out simultaneously across town, as reported in last week’s Brakpan Herald (‘Police clamp down on crime’).
The operation saw 38 illegal immigrants arrested and others nabbed for possession of drugs. Three shebeens were also closed.

At the roadblock, 72 traffic fines were issued to the value of R31 750. Illegal mining is a priority for law enforcement and police are pursuing plans to prevent and combat unlawful operations.
It was also disclosed there has been a reduction in essential infrastructure-related crimes since the introduction of a district task team.
Input was received from various role players including, among others, the EMPD – whose members have been combatting an increase in illegal dumping in Brakpan – the National Prosecuting Authority (Brakpan Magistrate’s Court) which reported a 100% conviction rate recently, and the Brakpan SPCA which touched on issues such as illegal hunting with dogs and dog poisonings.
