Compliance in focus at liquor traders meeting
The SAPS and the Gauteng Liquor Board warned that non-compliance would be dealt with.
The Gauteng Liquor Board presented a workshop on trading regulations and processes in accordance with the Gauteng Liquor Act.
This was done at a meeting hosted by Brakpan SAPS with local liquor traders at the police station last Wednesday.
The purpose was to emphasise the importance of compliance with the Liquor Act.
Cleo Bodipe-Lushaba, the director of the board, explained in detail the process of applying for a liquor licence.
Other topics covered included renewals of licences, the appointment of managers, types of licences (distributor, tavern, shebeen, bottle store, restaurant/pub, consumption on and off-premises), manufacturers using counterfeit alcohol, trading hours, noise pollution (soundproof control), transfer costs, cleanliness, shebeen permits (which are not licences), the layout of premises as prescribed (sufficient restrooms, fire extinguishers, proper lighting and security), displaying of the licence on the premises and searching patrons.

It was reiterated that all traders must keep their premises clean at all times.
