Brakpan eager to get season going

The season starts on March 25.

CCC Brakpan Rugby Club is looking forward to testing themselves against Pretoria this weekend.

After seeing their pre-season match against the same opponents postponed from last weekend to Saturday,

Brakpan will be hoping that they can show their quality before the season officially starts a week later against North-West University (NWU).

“Everything has been fine with the training but with training matches, it has been difficult,” said club chairperson Harry Nieuwenhuis.

“Everybody is struggling with money so they all want to play at home which has made it difficult to organise pre-season matches.”

Nieuwenhuis is eager to see how the youngsters who have moved from the U21 ranks to seniors will cope against one of the top teams in the Bulls league in Pretoria on Saturday.

“They are being tested against seniors. It’s a young group coming through. They haven’t been tested so we’ll see where they are,” he said.

“They haven’t been tested but they have been training since October. It’s a very good group of players.”

Brakpan will face NWU at home before going against Boksburg away in the Valke League before the Easter break.
