Adopt water saving-measures – CoE

CoE launched Be The Change campaign aimed at educating people about preserving water.

The City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) is facing the challenge of high-water losses, particularly in areas deemed to be indigent.

CoE recently launched the Be The Change campaign aimed at educating people about preserving water to ensure that there is enough and protected water for future development needs.

CoE spokesperson Zweli Dlamini said the campaign is targeting learners and residents who reside in areas with high water consumption and areas regarded as indigent.

“We encourage communities and business owners to get involved in the campaign by adopting water-saving measures in their daily lives by being mindful of when they use, consume, and manage water,” said Dlamini.

He urged residents to follow these water-saving measures:

• Reduce your time in the shower.

• Avoid washing cars with hose pipes, rather use buckets.

• Avoid washing pavements with hose pipes. Rather use a broom to sweep.

• Turn off taps while brushing your teeth.

• Do not hesitate to repair leaking taps.

• Avoid turning on taps fully and turn them off after use.

• Avoid leaving taps running while rinsing your hair or shaving.

• Cover swimming pools to prevent rapid water evaporation.

• Install low flow restrictions on taps at home.

“When it comes to water preservation, we have every reason to believe that together we can be the change we want to see,” said Dlamini.
