Business robbery suspect stopped in his tracks

Cash was stolen from the company by a man masquerading as a potential client.

A 27-year-old man was arrested on Monday following a robbery at a Voortrekker Road business.

According to Brakpan SAPS, a man visited the business premises earlier that day and enquired with the receptionist about the services offered by the company.

He returned later and asked the receptionist further questions. When the woman returned to her desk, the man followed her and then grabbed her.

He pushed her aside and grabbed cash from a receipt book and ran out the door.

Brakpan SAPS communications officer Constable Audrey Buthelezi told the Brakpan Herald police and other stakeholders received a report of a robbery in progress and swiftly responded.

“Upon their arrival, the suspect was attempting to flee,” she said.

He was apprehended and searched. A cash amount of R4 260 was found in his possession, as well as a set of keys for a Nissan Almera.

“There was a Nissan Almera parked a few metres from the business,” said Buthelezi.

“The stolen cash found on the suspect was returned.”

The suspect was detained at the Brakpan Police Station and the Nissan Almera used in the commission of the crime was taken to the Van Ryn Deep Vehicle Pound in Benoni.
