Weekend crime round-up

An overview of crimes reported to Brakpan police from April 7 to 10.

The following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the Easter weekend:

Friday – A home along 12th Road in Withok Estates was burgled of a TV, two cellphones, a sand mixer and a spray gun. A suspect was arrested in connection with this incident.

• A car parked at an address along Etosha Avenue in Dalpark was stripped of two wheels.

• A TV, clothes, shoes and other household items were stolen during a break-in at a house in Hope Avenue.

Saturday – A case of attempted murder is under investigation after two men were assaulted and a third almost struck by a tow truck at a petrol station along Springs Road in Rand Collieries.

The man who escaped being hit by the vehicle claimed he and his friends left a local bar just after midnight when one of his companions was attacked.

The man grabbed his friend and got him into the other friend’s vehicle but the attackers continued their assault through an open car window.

They drove off and stopped at the petrol station to check on their injured friend and to check for any damage to the vehicle.

While out of the car, the man saw a tow truck approaching with the driver heading straight for him. He jumped out of the way and the tow truck stopped and the occupants climbed out. They proceeded to assault the man’s two friends in the car.

Sunday – No priority cases were reported at the time of publication.

Monday – A man was arrested following a burglary at a Station Road business. Police were alerted to the break-in at around 04:00. A suspect was apprehended by a security guard and handed over to SAPS.

The thief gained entry to the shop through the roof and stole six cellphones. The stolen goods were recovered and booked in at the police station.

• A kettle and an iron were stolen during a break-in at a home in Roux Street, Sherwood Gardens.
The home’s occupants heard the intruders in the house at around 03:30 and alerted the CPF.
CPF patrollers found a window to the dining room open and the burglar bars broken.

• Two taxi commuters were robbed in separate incidents. A woman was robbed of her money and cellphone after boarding a taxi along Heidelberg Road in Dalpark at around 08:30.

The robbers were four males travelling in a white Toyota Quantum. The second victim was a man who was robbed of his cellphone, bank card and cash at gunpoint after boarding a taxi with five male occupants on Main Reef Road in Anzac at about 16:30.

• A Dalpark couple was robbed in their Lawrence Road home by three gunmen at around 19:50. The husband was confronted by the trio inside the house and instructed to lie down. His hands and feet were tied with shoelaces.

The man’s wife, who was in bed feeling unwell, came out of the bedroom and the robbers also forced her to lie on the floor. The robbers fled with TVs, laptops, cellphones and other valuables. They also took a vehicle from the garage.
