All hands on deck to rescue injured dog

SPCA comes to the rescue of injured dog who has since been reunited with her owners.

Brakpan SPCA staff are never sure what situation they will be faced with when attending to call-outs but will always give it their all to help any animal in need.

Last Thursday, they were called out to a business along Hamilton Avenue after the company’s owner contacted them regarding a dog that had fallen into a pit.

The dog was reported to be quite aggressive and the business required the SPCA’s assistance.

Not knowing what to expect, the SPCA went out prepared with as much help as they could.

When staff arrived, they were taken to the pit and found a Boston terrier named Minnie. She had been reported missing by her owners and had been lost for a day or two.

SPCA manager Tamaryn Lombard didn’t waste any time and jumped into the pit to check on Minnie, who was trying to hide in the corner.

The terrified dog was found to be in immense pain with a wound to her chest. The SPCA acted swiftly, called Minnie’s owners and rushed her to the vet.

Minnie will make a full recovery and is safely back home with her owners.

“Our staff do not know what they will be arriving to, however, we go head-on in any situation and try our very best to help the animals that need us,” said Lombard.

“Not all instances are as easy as this one. Our hardest are the animals running astray in the street, scared and bewildered. We do try what we can to help.”

Community members are reminded to contact the SPCA for any animals found, no matter the situation.

The society may be contacted on 011 742 2007.
