Local SAPS are investigating a double murder case after the bodies of two men were found near Lukas Steyn Street in Withok Estates.
According to Brakpan police communications officer Constable Audrey Buthelezi, the EMPD notified SAPS about the bodies on Monday afternoon.
“According to a witness, he discovered the bodies last Friday when he was seeking shelter from the rain,” she said.
“The male alleges that he made efforts to phone the police but was unsuccessful. On Monday, he saw an EMPD vehicle and stopped it.”
Buthelezi told the Brakpan Herald the bodies were found inside a dilapidated container.
“It was discovered that both deceased males had gunshot wounds, and four empty cartridges were found on the scene,” she said.
“One of the deceased males had a backpack containing tools used for cable theft and the area is a current hotspot for cable theft.”
At the time of publication, the bodies had not yet been identified.
UPDATE (May 24, 11:54): Police have confirmed a burnt body was found on the same day, about a kilometre from the crime scene.
An inquest docket has been opened. It is not known whether the cases are linked.
