Weekend crime round-up

An overview of crimes reported to local SAPS from May 19 to 21.

The following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the past weekend:

Friday – A grey Renault Sandero was stolen from an address along Trollip Street in Brenthurst.

• Two security guards on duty at a company along 7th Road in Witpoort Estates were overpowered by a group of eight robbers at around 18:00.

At least one of the robbers was armed with a gun and the guards were tied up. The robbers fled with a cellphone, two cellphone chargers, two hand radios, two torches, four jackets, two school bags, two batteries for a TLB and a forklift battery.

Saturday – A car battery and electronic control unit were stolen from a vehicle parked along Hamilton Avenue.

• A woman was robbed of her belongings after boarding a taxi along West Street in Sonneveld at about 11:20.
The taxi had three male occupants, including the driver. After driving off, one of the men grabbed the victim and told her to keep quiet.

The robbers, who were armed with knives, took the victim’s bank cards and stopped at an ATM to withdraw cash.
They also took her two cellphones and then dropped her off in Leachville.

• A man was assaulted and robbed at the corner of Location and Hospital roads in Brakpan North at around 16:00.
The victim was attacked by four men and struck with a hammer. He was robbed of his cellphone and R850 in cash.

• A pair of shoes and an iPhone were stolen during a break-in at a home in the Mkhankwa Village informal settlement in Maryvlei.

Sunday – Car thieves poisoned and killed dogs at a property along Lester Road in Brenthurst. Two vehicles, both blue Toyota Tazzes, were stolen from the address.

• Taps, copper pipes and cables were stolen from a home in Albert Street, Brenthurst.
