Weekend crime round-up
An overview of crimes reported to local SAPS from June 2 to 4.

The following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the past weekend:
Friday – Cellphones were stolen during an armed robbery at a store at Mall@Carnival. The robbery was carried out by three men, one of whom threatened an employee with a gun.
One of the men jumped over the counter and started packing cellphones into a bag. The robbers fled when the shop’s alarm was triggered.
• A vehicle parked at Mall@Carnival was broken into and a laptop and a tablet were stolen.
• A fridge and a microwave were stolen during a burglary at an address along Escombe Avenue.
• A home in Sports Way, Anzac, was burgled of three 9kg gas bottles, three bicycles, a gas braai, clothes and a TV.
• A female taxi commuter was robbed at knifepoint after boarding a taxi at the corner of Hendrik Potgieter Road and Craigholm Street in Dalview.
The incident took place at around 17:30 and the taxi had three male occupants. After driving off, one of the men threatened the victim with a knife and asked her how much money she had.
He robbed her of R50 and also took her cellphone. The robbers used her cellphone banking app to transfer over R11 000 from her account. They also took clothing valued at R900. The victim was dropped off in Benoni.
• A man was held at gunpoint by a lone robber along New Kleinfontein Road in Leachville at about 18:30. The victim was reversing his vehicle out of the yard when a man knocked on his window and indicated there was something wrong with the car.
When the victim got out of the vehicle, the man pointed a gun at him. The victim ran off in fear. When he returned, he found his wife’s handbag had been stolen from the car. The bag contained two cellphones, passports, car keys and R150 in cash.
• A man walking home along Van Dyk Street in Dalpark was robbed by two men armed with knives at around 19:00. The robbers made off with the victim’s cellphone, a headset and a laptop.
Saturday – Cash, a cellphone and other valuables were stolen during an armed robbery at a Goods Road takeaway at around 07:00. Four men pretending to be customers entered the shop and then threatened employees with firearms.
They demanded money and assaulted two staff members. The robbers were travelling in an unidentified silver vehicle.
• A TV and a laptop were stolen during a break-in at a home along Lester Road in Brenthurst.
Sunday – A car parked at an address along Nash Crescent in Brakpan North was broken into. The vehicle’s left rear window was broken and two 9kg gas bottles were stolen from the car. A bicycle and a camping chair at the residence were also taken.
• A Brenthurst couple was robbed of their jewellery and other valuables in the driveway of their Tweedy Road home.
The couple returned home just after 14:30 and were stopped at the front gate when they were confronted by two men.
The men pointed guns at them and demanded their belongings. The robbers fled with a diamond ring, bracelets, a wristwatch, clothes, an iPhone and other goods.
The robbers then fled in an unidentified vehicle with the husband giving chase. He followed them to Boksburg but abandoned the pursuit when the robbers fired shots at him.
