Helping to alleviate hunger

Resident and his supporters recently distributed 110 meals to those in need.

More than 100 meals were recently distributed to the less fortunate by Helderwyk Estate resident Irvin Tyler and his group of volunteers and supporters.

Tyler, from Drunken Chef, hosted his first food drive last year in which home-cooked meals were distributed to those in need.

Following the success of the drive and with interest garnered from family and friends, the latest drive was held on July 1.

“It was amazing and all the volunteers did an amazing job with the challenges of load-shedding and not having water,” he said.

“We totaled 110 meals which included hot dogs, coffee, curry and rice, and water. We kept a route through the East Rand and ended behind the East Rand Mall.

“We would like to thank our sponsors for the donations for this amazing journey.

“We would like thank Raymond Tyler, Tatum Tyler and Pascal Haunreiter for their time and dedication. It was amazing and we appreciate every effort.

“Our sponsors came to help in funding this drive and allowing us to meet this target. We thank you and as we grow we will continue to appreciate your support. We meet strangers who do the same so will be teaming up soon with them to help more people.”

Tyler also thanked Francios de Ru, Hlope Spices, Stanley Farreira, Amiena Wolkman, Fluid Africa and Terence Tobin, Sky Night Projects and Amestris.

“Without you, this would have not been possible. Here is to the next,” he added.

As previously reported in the Brakpan Herald, Drunken Chef was started by Tyler and Charlton Beyers. The idea was to start a restaurant and cater for events.

Beyers has since moved to Saudi Arabia where he is a chef.

“Most of what I know I learnt from him. In honour of him and his contribution to my passion for food, I kept the name Drunken Chef and started the company with the intention of doing events and catering privately,” said Tyler.

“Last year I wanted to do something for the community and did my first food drive. After my friends and family saw it on social media, they wanted to get involved so this year I can do more.

“So Drunken Chef moved from two guys with a love of food to a company that wants to help those less fortunate with warm meals from time to time.”
