Spurs confident ahead of cup game

Spurs are full of young players who can do something special. The bulk of the squad is younger than the age of 19.

Brakpan Spurs is confident that they will proceed to the Easterns Local Football Association (ELFA) Cup semi-final.

The local club faces Rovers FC in the quarter final at Apex Sports Grounds on Saturday.

“With the league title being out of our reach the cup is the only hope for our senior side,” said Spurs manager Jabulani Munene.

“We normally do not disappoint when it comes to cup games.”

Spurs goes into the match having finished second in the ELFA Reserve League. Munene believes this will be good for them.

The manager has no doubt in his mind that his team is capable of winning the cup.

“The players need to put the performances in the league aside as all our youngsters are available with schools being closed,” he said.

Spurs are full of young players who can do something special.

The bulk of the squad is younger than the age of 19. Emmanuel Ngobeni, Bangile Mahashe and Piet Mampe are the only players in their 20s.

“We stand a good chance of going to the semi-finals this year,” said Munene.

The local club seems to have put some of the problems they had behind them.

Earlier in the season they were struggling to find a venue to play their home matches as Brakpan Sports Grounds was being used for musical events.

This forced them to have to play their home matches away, which clearly hurt them in the first half of the season.

They have now found a home at Apex with their young side showing that they are capable of playing against teams with much older players.

“This might be our first Easterns trophy if the boys play the football that I know they can play,” said the manager.

The young players have an opportunity to do something that no other Spurs side have in winning the senior cup competition.

The local club’s U13 side will also be in cup action this weekend. They face New Era FC in their quarter-final on Sunday.
