Motorists urged to be vigilant after two hijackings in one day

Cases of hijacking and kidnapping are under investigation.

An e-hailing driver and another motorist fell victim to hijackers in separate incidents in Brakpan last Tuesday.

According to police information, the driver of a white Toyota Hilux was robbed of his vehicle by a group of men at the R23 and R554 intersection in Dalpark at around 10:30.

A black Volkswagen Golf stopped in front of the victim while a Toyota Quantum minibus with three male occupants parked behind him.

Three men got out of the Golf and threatened the victim with firearms. The victim was forced inside the Golf and driven to Germiston where he was let go.

In addition to his vehicle, he was robbed of cash and his cellphone. At 13:30, an e-hailing driver was hijacked of his silver Volkswagen Polo after picking up three men in Kwa-Thema who requested a ride to Brakpan.

While travelling along Mouton Street in Withok Estates, one of the men told the driver he needed to urinate and asked him to pull over.

The driver stopped and the man got out of the car. When he returned to the vehicle, he pulled out a gun and instructed the driver to move to the backseat.

He was later dropped off in Springs. Hijacking and kidnapping dockets were opened for both cases.
