Influencer hopes to inspire the youth

Lerato Maris was acknowledged and recognised for her work to uplift women.

Sallies Village resident Lerato Maris walked away as a winner at the recent The Future is Female & Men Champions Awards 2023.

The 30-year-old, who is a United Nations brand ambassador and influencer, was nominated in the 2023 Most Influential Youth Award category and placed first in the subcategory, The Most Gender-Focused Youth for 2023.

The awards, presented by Leading Women of Africa, are designed to create awareness and showcase the role of male and female leaders as change agents on the continent. Over 50 nominations were received from 20 African countries.

“I had the honour to meet the former vice-president of Zambia, Godfrey Miyanda, Clr Dineo Masiu from the City of Cape Town, and the great Dr Pali Lehohla (Statistician General of South Africa) during the ceremony and had the honour to engage with and shake hands as I thanked them for the recognition and support for seeing something in me worth recognising,” said Maris.

“Being honoured by the presence of such amazing leaders was the highlight of my evening and I am so humbled and grateful.

“I hope this encourages all the youth and everyone who is passionate about their dreams to keep believing that dedication and commitment to one’s dreams and goals will take you to greater heights. Keep pushing hard and finish what you start.”
