Weekend crime round-up

An overview of crimes reported to local SAPS from December 1 to 3.

The following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the past weekend:

Friday – Electric tools and other goods were stolen from a garage at a residence along Tweedy Road in Brenthurst.

• A garage at a home in Perdeskoen Crescent in Huntingdon (Brakpan North) was broken into and a spitbraai, gardening equipment and electric and hand tools were stolen.

• A home in Grey Avenue was broken into and a cellphone, a laptop, a wallet and sets of keys were stolen. The intruders were interrupted by an occupant of the house, who chased after a man but was unable to apprehend him. Two TVs were found abandoned in the yard.

• A man was robbed at knifepoint by an e-hailing driver after being dropped off at an address in Dalview. The victim requested a ride from Rand Collieries at around 01:40 and was fetched by a man travelling in a white Toyota Etios.

They arrived at the victim’s destination along Buxton Avenue and he got out of the car. As the victim was unlocking the gate, he was attacked from behind by the driver, who was armed with a knife.

He pointed the weapon at the victim’s chest and threatened to stab him. The driver searched the victim, taking his cellphone valued at R40 000 and R250 in cash. He then returned to his vehicle and drove off. A case of armed robbery is under investigation.

Saturday – Three cars were stolen – a silver Toyota Legend 50 from Venter Street in Dalview, a blue Mitsubishi from Blyde Avenue in Leachville and a bronze Toyota Fortuner from Bekker Street in Dalview.

• A man was robbed at gunpoint in the parking lot of Mall@Carnival. The victim had been shopping when he was approached by two men at about 14:00.

One of the men told the victim he had a shopping voucher and, if the victim agreed, he would purchase an item for the victim in exchange for the cash. The man told the victim he preferred to have the money instead of the voucher.

The man then told the victim to wait for him near a restaurant while he went to make the purchase. The man returned to the victim and they exited the mall.

While walking through the parking lot, the man pulled out a gun and pointed it at the victim. He demanded the victim’s laptop bag, cellphone and money, which the victim handed over. An armed robbery docket was opened.
