Ladies Cup comes to The Rock Raceway
The women hope to get more women and children interested in motorsports.
The Rietkuil Raceway’s Ladies Cup debuted at The Rock Raceway on Saturday, with six stockrod racers going head-to-head in a women-only race.
Sonell Cambell won the race, Leigh Ann Wood came second, and Samantha Lensley was third.
The cup, started by Piet Pieterse in 2022 with eight women, was intended as a class to build the women racer’s skills who did not want to compete with men.
Now, they hope to use the Ladies Cup to build interest in motorsports among women and children and give back to charity.
The Ladies Cup needs six women and six juniors to race at The Rock.

The date still needs to be decided, but the group hopes to host an event where the public and businesses can donate to one of three pre-selected charities.
As part of the deal, business owners will race against a woman of their choice for five laps.
If they lose, they donate to one of the three charities. Should they win, they still donate but get their business’ branding put on the racer’s car for a year.
The charities the women work with are Breast Cancer Support Pretoria NPO, President Kruger Kinderhuis Pretoria and Surviving the Odds NPC, a haven and charity.
