Weekend crime round-up

An overview of crimes reported to local SAPS from April 12 to 14.

The following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the past weekend:

Friday – A woman was robbed of her bank card while waiting in a queue to use an ATM along Voortrekker Road.
The incident took place at around 13:20.

A lone thief snatched the card from the woman’s hands and ran off. An amount of R1 600 was withdrawn from the victim’s account before she could block it.

• Tools valued at R12 500 were stolen from a property along Olga Mitchell Street in Anzac. A Wendy house on the premises was broken into.

• A red Big Boy motorcycle was stolen from Main Reef Road in Anzac.

• An orange Honda CBR motorbike was stolen from Devon Avenue in Dalview.

• A Prince George Avenue liquor store was broken into and cigarettes valued at R16 000 were stolen. Entrance to the shop was gained through the roof of the premises.

Saturday – A white Toyota Hilux was stolen from Abercorn Street. The vehicle was recovered in Vosloorus.

• A knife-wielding intruder evaded capture after he was found by security guards on a property in Elliot Road, Anzac.

A female security guard was patrolling the premises at around 01:00 when she happened across the man.
He removed a knife from his trousers and approached the guard, who alerted her colleague.

When the other guard arrived, the man fled. The two guards inspected the premises and found that a window of a storeroom had been broken. A heavy-duty chain had also been damaged.

Sunday – A vehicle parked at an address along Lagrange Street in Minnebron was stripped of its tyres.

• A workshop in Denne Road, Vulcania, was burgled of tools and other valuables with a combined value of over R28 000.

Among the stolen items were a grinder, a plasma cutter and a welding torch. The perpetrators gained access to the workshop through the roof.
