Dancers shine at 2024 SACWD District Championships
The championships were held at Cosy Corner in Brenthurst.
Cosy Corner in Brenthurst played host to the South African Country and Western Dancing (SACWD) district championships on May 10 and 11.
Line dancers and country and western dancing couples from the area competed to qualify for provincial competitions, and later for nationals.
After this, they will move on to compete in the World Country Dance Federation (WorldCDF) World Championships.
“The event showcased the best of the nation’s dance scene, with both seasoned professionals and rising stars making headlines,” reads a Facebook post by Country Dance Sport South Africa (CDSSA).

“One of the most remarkable achievements of the championships was Steffie Harris’s claim to be the new number one in South Africa.
“Harris, known for her grace and precision, became the first South African dancer to ever do showcase Pro-Am, stunning audiences with her flawless waltz and captivating West Coast swing routines.”
Locals took part too, with Yuveldi van der Heever from Dancing Stars making an appearance. From Laerskool Dalview, Jatricia du Preez, Danni-Leigh Swanepoel, Samantha Doley, Demi Doley, Olivia Doley and Riley Phillips put their feet on the dance floor.
Angelic Pieterse from Hoërskool Stoffberg and Marinique van Zyl from Laerskool Brakpan Oos also took part.
