Weekend crime round-up

An overview of crimes reported to local SAPS from May 17 to 19.

The following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the past weekend:

Friday – A gas stove, garden furniture and other valuables were stolen from a lapa on a property along Brakpan Road in Anzac.

• A white Hyundai H100 was stolen from Craven Street in Sherwood Gardens.

• A taxi driver was hijacked at the traffic circle in Anzac at around 18:20.

The victim had stopped to drop off passengers when two men got into the white Toyota Quantum and threatened him with a gun.

He was instructed to turn off the ignition and go to the back of the taxi. The victim made a run for it and sought help at a nearby petrol station. The hijacked taxi was later recovered in Delmas.

Saturday – A vehicle parked along Hamilton Avenue was broken into and a laptop was stolen.

• A white Toyota Fortuner was stolen from Evans Street in Brenthurst.

• A white Nissan 1400 was stolen from the corner of Paul Kruger and Reitz streets in Dalview.

• A trailer was stolen from an address along Pieta Street in Kenleaf.

Sunday – Two trailers were stolen in separate incidents. One was stolen from a home along Station Road and the other from an address along Prince George Avenue in Brenthurst.

• A grey Volkswagen Polo was stolen from the corner of Winterhoek Drive and Drakensberg Avenue in Helderwyk Estate.

• A gate motor was stolen from a home in Scott Crescent, Brenthurst.

• A woman was robbed at the corner of Voortrekker Road and Prince George Avenue just after 16:00.

The victim was leaving an ATM when a man attacked her from behind.

He grabbed her cellphone and kicked her. The thief ran off but then discarded the cellphone.

He was chased by community members and was apprehended shortly afterwards by patrolling police officers.

The man was arrested for robbery.
