Gang attacks petrol station

Explosions and gunfire heard by residents in surrounding areas.

The town was rattled by an early morning assault on the Anzac Caltex garage last Thursday.

Cases of business robbery, attempted murder, and charges relating to the Explosives Act are under investigation by Brakpan police.

According to reports, an employee on duty at the Main Reef Road petrol station noticed a group of men approaching the shop on foot just after 01:00.

She initially thought they were customers, but feared the worst when she saw them covering their faces.

Suspecting they were to be robbed, the employee warned her colleagues and they hid behind a fridge in the store.

Staff then heard two explosions from the area where the ATM is located, as well as shots being fired.

It is reported that numerous goods were taken from the shop. It was not disclosed whether the ATM bombing was successful and if any cash was stolen.
