Brakpan SAPS and CPF join forces for to boost community safety

Such patrols have been noted to improve crime statistics.

Brakpan SAPS and the CPF conducted a mass patrol on October 11.

Officers and CPF members met at Mall@Carnival, where the parade was conducted by Brakpan SAPS Vispol commander Colonel Robert Makopo, and was supported by Sector 3 manager Sergeant Elvis Mashifane.

The Sector 1 manager and communications officer, Constable Audrey Buthelezi, also supported the patrol, along with CPF chairperson Tinus Jordaan, CPF Sector 1 chairperson Simon Mabuse and CPF Sector 4 chairperson, Jessy Naicker.

The community of Brakpan was surprised at the overwhelming convoy of more than 20 vehicles with flashing lights, including the SAPS vehicles.

The mass patrol started in Sector 4 covering hotspots. Police members used the opportunity to ensure compliance at spaza shops.

There were stop-and-searches conducted, with public drinking and loitering being harshly reprimanded. All four sectors within Brakpan were patrolled until midnight.

The high visibility was part of law enforcement’s proactive strategy against crime. Makopo cited his satisfaction with how the patrol positively impacts crime statistics and encouraged CPF and other stakeholders to participate in such engagements.

He thanked the SAPS and CPF members for the excellent execution of the planned mass patrol.
