Community apprehends man after woman’s fatal assault in Brenthurst

Following their fight, the man is alleged to have attacked the woman with a steel pipe.

A man who is alleged to have attacked and killed a woman in Brenthurst last Thursday morning was apprehended by community members when he attempted to flee.

Brakpan police were notified of the murder at around 07:50.

Upon arrival at the scene, at the corner of Van Zyl Street and Olympia Road behind a supermarket, the responding officer was met by an eyewitness who was in the company of the victim when the incident occurred.

According to SAPS information, the eyewitness told the officer the victim and the man became involved in a dispute over a rock.

The man was sitting on the rock and the victim told him to move because it was her rock.

They reportedly exchanged some heated words, and then, as the victim was walking away from the man, he allegedly grabbed her and assaulted her with a steel pipe.

When she fell to the ground, the man allegedly kicked her. The eyewitness shouted for help and the man tried to make a run for it.

He was caught by community members, and handed over to police upon their arrival. The woman’s body was taken to the Springs Mortuary. It was found she had sustained head injuries. The man was arrested and faces a charge of murder.
