Bumper bash leads to hijacking along Ergo Road

The victim was targeted by "tap-tap" hijackers.

The driver of a blue Toyota Corolla was held captive after being hijacked in Maryvlei last Wednesday evening.

According to police information, the victim was involved in a minor traffic collision along Ergo Road at around 18:00.

The victim stopped to check his vehicle after it was bumped by a white Toyota Tazz.

While inspecting the car, the victim was confronted by two gunmen, who ordered him into their vehicle.

The victim was forced into the boot, where he was kept “the whole night”.

He was dropped off in an area unknown to him and walked to a petrol station along Heidelberg Road where he sought help.

In addition to the Corolla, the hijackers also took the victim’s wallet and cellphone.

Cases of hijacking and kidnapping were registered at Brakpan SAPS.

This popular hijacking method is known as tap-tap hijacking, where hijackers stage a minor accident to get their victims out of the vehicle.

Motorists are advised to rather drive to the nearest police station if their vehicle is bumped and they don’t feel comfortable with the person involved.
