Weekend crime round-up
An overview of crimes reported to local SAPS from November 1 to 3.
The following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the past weekend:
Friday – A silver-coloured Toyota Corolla Cross was stolen from Voortrekker Road. The vehicle was recovered in Katlehong.
• A TV and three pairs of tekkies were stolen during a burglary at a residence along Gladstone Avenue.
Saturday – A man was arrested following a break-in at a business along Prince George Avenue. Entry was gained by forcing open a small window.
The man was found on the premises by security personnel just before 04:00 with stolen goods in his possession.
The items were returned to the business.
• Three vehicles were stolen. A gold-coloured Toyota Fortuner was stolen from Evans Street in Brenthurst. Keys, cellphones, a laptop and other valuables were inside the vehicle.
A white Toyota Yaris was stolen from the corner of Bedford Street and Gardiner Avenue, and a white Toyota Corolla Cross was stolen from Mall@Carnival. The Corolla Cross was recovered in Dalpark, with damage to its interior.
• A lone thief attempted to steal a Ford Fiesta from an address along Boven Avenue in Leachville. The incident took place at around 04:10 when the car’s owner was loading bags and luggage into the vehicle.
She was returning to the car from the house with more luggage when she saw a man in the driver’s seat of her car.
The woman screamed for help and ran back to the house. The car keys were in the door of the vehicle.
As she was hiding inside the house with her children, she heard a loud bang.
Going outside to investigate, the woman saw the car had been moved from where it was parked under the carport.
The thief had driven the car into the wall, near the gate, causing around R40 000 worth of damage to the vehicle.
He fled the scene, leaving the keys in the ignition.
• Cables valued at R9 000 were stolen from a business along Oval Road in Anzac.
Sunday – A blue Toyota Etios was stolen from Queen Avenue.
• A Station Road woman died after she was stabbed during an alleged domestic dispute. Police received a report of assault at around 00:40 and proceeded to the scene.
Upon arrival at the address, the responding officer was met by a group of people outside the yard, who claimed the woman was assaulted by her boyfriend.
The officer saw blood seeping from under a closed door but was unable to gain access to the room as the victim was lying across the doorway.
Paramedics arrived and were able to reach the victim, who was declared dead. She was stabbed once in the chest, and her body was taken to the Springs Mortuary. A murder docket was opened.
