SPCA’s Bargain Barkers opens up shop in the mall

The shop has a cosy vibe with a wide variety of products.

The Brakpan SPCA recently launched their charity shop, Bargain Barkers, in the Mall@Carnival.

The store has second-hand and new items, including clothes, fiction and non-fiction books, vinyl records, CDs and DVDs, jewellery, ornaments and homeware, gaming accessories and plenty more.

A great project coming with the store is a collaboration with YapScan, an app that scans and registers a pet’s nose, which is as unique to them as fingerprints are to humans.

Registering a profile is free, and can help the SPCA identify lost pets that they receive, by scanning their noses and seeing if that pet has a profile on the app.

As reported in last week’s Brakpan Herald, YapScan has provided the Brakpan SPCA with a unique link to download the app, and anyone who downloads the app and registers a profile through that link helps YapScan donate R10 to the SPCA.

YapScan hopes to raise R10 000 for the Brakpan SPCA, while providing a way to identify pets that has zero cost.

“Thank you to the mall for the opportunity, and more feet in the store will help us continue to grow this fundraising opportunity, and maintain it long-term,” said vice-chairperson of the Brakpan SPCA, Riaan van Zyl.

The store is very neat and cosy, and even has a reading nook in the corner among the shelves.

“Just stop by, it’ll allow the SPCA to grow and keep functioning,” added Riaan. Bargain Barkers is located opposite the Telkom store.
