A racing season to remember

The Brakpan lad, who has five podiums under his belt, has proven he's one to watch.

Eight-year-old Liam Smith from Brakpan has wrapped up his racing year in style, earning a second place finish in round 8 of the SA Short Circuit Series, and taking third place in the SA Short Circuit Regional Championship for 2024.

The final race for the 2024 season was recently held in Vereeniging. Liam, who competes in the PW50 class, finished in second place during the qualifier.

During the first heat, Liam pushed himself and was able to better his personal best time lap after lap on this track.
He completed the first heat in second place.

Liam also placed second during the second and third heats, earning him an overall second place on the podium for the day.

After the racing concluded and points were calculated for the SA Short Circuit Regional Championship for 2024, prize-giving took place.


Liam Smith clinched a double podium in the final race of the season and the regional champs.

This was Liam’s rookie year racing and he secured third place in the regional championship. There was a difference of 68 points between Liam and fourth place.

He has enjoyed a successful year on the track, taking five podiums, including these recent triumphs.

Next year, Liam will undertake a second season in the PW50 class but is also moving to the SM50 class, where he will be racing with his new Husqvarna TC50 in this class.

Liam has shown so much dedication to the sport, and has put his heart and soul into each practice day and each race.

He has had many achievements and shown so much growth during his first year of racing, and is excited to see what the next year holds.
