Robbers hit Brenthurst bottle store

The store's owner was pistol-whipped.

A Brenthurst bottle store owner smashed the windshield of his attackers’ car as they fled following a robbery on Monday morning.

Police reports reveal the owner was followed inside the Olympia Road store by two men at about 07:50.

He was cornered in the shop by the robbers, one of whom was armed with a gun.

The robbers searched him and took his cellphone and R4 000 in cash.

When the owner attempted to fight them off, he was hit with the gun.

The robbers then fled in a black Volkswagen, with the owner in pursuit.

He threw a bottle at the fleeing vehicle, which shattered the windshield.

It was not disclosed whether any liquor or other goods were stolen from the store.

A business robbery case is under investigation.
