Hijackers pounce on motorcyclist waiting at traffic lights

The victim abandoned his motorcycle and escaped unharmed.

A motorcyclist was threatened at gunpoint and robbed of his bike while stationery at traffic lights on Monday night.

Police information reveals the rider was waiting for the red light to change at the Station and Voortrekker roads intersection at around 20:30, when the driver of a white bakkie blocked the road.

The bakkie did not have a canopy and two men were seated in the cargo bed.

The duo jumped from the bakkie and approached the driver, with one of them pulling out a gun.

The gunman pointed the weapon at the victim and demanded his motorcycle.

The victim abandoned his bike, but took the key from the ignition, and ran away.

When he returned a short while later, the motorcycle was gone.

The white Big Boy is valued at around R20 800.

A hijacking case is under investigation.
