Forum meeting focuses on tackling crime
Crime hotspots were discussed and strategies set out for tackling these areas.
Brakpan SAPS station commander Brigadier Johanna Ngoma, supported by the detective branch commander Colonel Eugene Scheepers and Vispol commander Colonel Robert Makopo, engaged with the CPF in the police station boardroom last Thursday.
The meeting was steered by Brakpan CPF chairperson Tinus Jordaan, and in attendance were the CPF sector chairs, and the EMPD.
A crime overview was presented and discussed. Current trends, times, days and hotspots were highlighted, and suggestions and ideas were presented and conceptualised. Teamwork between stakeholders was encouraged by Jordaan.
Ngoma mentioned joint operations to tackle stubborn hotspots and extended gratitude to the CPF and EMPD, as well as other stakeholders who were absent.
“SAPS encourages the Brakpan communities to not be reluctant to join the CPF. As a CPF member, a person becomes the eyes and ears of the police, and in doing so they form part of the law enforcement and contribute to crime fighting,” said Constable Audrey Buthelezi, Sector 1 manager and Brakpan SAPS communications officer.
“The SAPS need a helping hand to completely eradicate lawlessness, and that helping hand can only be community members.”
