Brakpan youngster pedals to raise awareness about environment
The young girl who wrote Brakpan Broom for Clean Brakpan is hoping to pressure the City of Ekurhuleni to protect and rebuild historic sites.
Brianna Mupaya, a local youth who authored the Brakpan Broom children’s book about Clean Brakpan, will be cycling from Johannesburg to Brakpan on April 18.
The CyClean Brakpan Drive is aimed at spreading awareness about keeping the environment clean, and protecting heritage sites such as the old Brakpan Library, which was gutted by fire early last year.
Brianna hopes to use this opportunity to put pressure on the City of Ekurhuleni to rebuild such heritage sites, and protect them from the looting and crumbling that destroyed the old library.
“Every kilometre I cycle is a call to action for a cleaner, better-maintained Brakpan,” Brianna explained. She encourages the community to get involved in the initiative, by supporting her campaign, donating to Clean Brakpan and putting pressure on the city to rebuild and protect heritage sites in town.
“Your support has made a difference before, and I know together we can push this initiative far,” she said.
