Volunteers needed for clean-up at park at old Brenthurst tennis club
The unkempt and overgrown park poses a serious safety concern.
Clean Brakpan has identified the park at the old Brenthurst tennis club as being in urgent need of another sprucing up. The group will be cleaning the park tomorrow (Saturday) from 07:00, and have called on residents to assist.
As reported by the Brakpan Herald in August, Clean Brakpan started a petition calling for the demolition of the building on the premises of the old tennis club.
The group holds regular clean-ups in this park and are witness to the impact of the dilapidated structure in the community.
The former sports facility has for long been a dangerous eyesore.
At the time of the article’s publication, crime levels surged in areas near these run-down courts, with drug-related offences, in particular, showing a substantial increase.

The club’s grounds are also full of hazards, such as rusty barbed wire fencing and broken glass bottles. Clean Brakpan’s petition was submitted to council, and the City of Ekurhuleni acknowledged receipt.
Official communication from the municipality stated the relevant departments will revert back with a report to be tabled and considered at the Council Public Participation and Petitions Standing Committee.
Clean Brakpan is in need of many hands for tomorrow’s clean-up. The group requires volunteers with gloves, weed eaters, bush cutters, gardening tools, petrol mowers, petrol, diesel and 2-stroke fuel.
Donations of cold drinks, lunch, tools, gloves, brush cutters and fuel will also be gratefully received. For more information call Lisa Jordaan on 073 335 3947.
