Love and faith guide local couple to 50-year milestone

The couple commemorated this milestone anniversary among family and friends.

With love for each other that is described as an inspiration to all who know them, Brakpan Central residents Ferdinand and Mercia Joubert recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

Ferdinand (72) and Mercia (67), who have both lived in Brakpan since childhood, said “I do” at St John the Baptist Catholic Church on April 26, 1975.

They have two sons, Rudi and Jasen, and a daughter, Samantha Mc Carthy, as well as four grandchildren, Ru-Juan Joubert, Tristan Mc Carthy, Kerry-Lee Joubert and Trinity Mc Carthy – of whom they are exceptionally proud.

Ferdinand was a welder by trade, but these days he spends his time in his vegetable garden which brings him great joy.
Mercia has been a homemaker throughout their years together.

The couple has faced many challenges in life but have overcome them all by putting God first and staying positive. Ferdinand and Mercia love spending quality time together by playing dominoes.

Their advice to married couples is to always have a positive attitude, and they are firm believers that a family that prays together stays together. They marked their golden anniversary with a special celebration attended by family and friends.
