Brakpan SAPS operation sees drugs and drunk drivers taken off the streets
A roadblock and patrol resulted in several arrests and a strong show of force across the town.
Brakpan SAPS conducted a pro-active crime prevention operation on Friday in collaboration with the EMPD, AfriForum, CPF, Crime Prevention Wardens, Secure Tech Security and CP Security. Vispol commander Colonel Robert Makopo conducted the parade at 15:30 on the police station grounds, supported by SAPS officers and members.
A roadblock was set up thereafter along Louw Street in Dalpark next to the Siloam Word Of Truth church where motor vehicles were stopped and searched, and traffic rule breakers were fined.
AfriForum, the CPF and private security companies joined in at 19:00 and started with a mass patrol convoy before dividing into groups that covered most parts of the town.
Brakpan SAPS Sector 1 manager and communications officer Constable Audrey Buthelezi explained the operation focused on trio crimes (business robbery, house robbery and hijackings), crimes dependent on police action, and maintaining high visibility to deter criminal activity.

“Law enforcement agencies coloured the precinct and more boots hit the ground to ensure no serious crimes were reported,” she said.
“Hotspots got colder with the adequate visibility of law enforcers, road users experienced peaceful travelling, while businesses operated with relief because of the high visibility of law enforcers.”
The operation saw 115 vehicles searched and six traffic fines issued to the value of R6 000.
“Four people were arrested for possession of drugs and four were arrested for drunk driving,” said Buthelezi.
The team worked until midnight, and Makopo thanked the stakeholders for their assistance in the fight against crime. He further encouraged unity and the spirit of teamwork, adding it is the best strategy for crime-combating efforts.
