Brakpan weekend crime round-up: Bakkie thefts, security guard tied up and ATM robbery
An overview of crimes reported to Brakpan SAPS from July 11 to 13.
The following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the weekend:
Friday – A security guard on duty at a site along 12th Road in Withok Estates was robbed by four intruders at around 09:30.
The robbers, at least one of whom was armed with a gun, cornered the guard. They tied his hands, covered his face and robbed him of his cellphone.
When he could no longer hear the men’s voices, the guard untied himself and went off in search of help. He found a colleague and together they inspected the site and discovered cables had been stolen.
• Power tools, batteries and other goods were stolen from the back of a bakkie at an address along Molecule Road in Vulcania.
The vehicle was also damaged.
Saturday – A white Nissan bakkie was stolen from Queen Avenue.
Sunday – A man was robbed after withdrawing money at an ATM along Voortrekker Road. The incident took place at about 17:15 as the victim was returning to his car after making the withdrawal.
He was approached by two men, who told him not to make any noise. One of them pointed a knife at the victim, and he was searched. The robbers fled with the victim’s wallet, containing R500 in cash, cards and his driver’s licence.
• A red Ford Ranger bakkie was stolen from the Sherwood Shopping Centre.
