Directorates launch mental health outreach

The directorate worked with the Department of Health in the Mental Health Directorate.

The CoE’s Women’s Directorate and Community Services and the Department of Health’s social worker in the Mental Health Directorate hosted a Mandela Day event at the Old Location informal settlement on July 18.

Clinic manager Patricia Tshegang from the Kingsway Clinic supported the programme.

“We wanted to give back to the community and teach them about mental health, substance abuse and suicide, especially where women and children are concerned,” said Refiloe Selahle from the Women’s Directorate.

July is Mental Health Awareness Month, so the event educated the community on the services at the local clinic and encouraged them to use them.

“We also donated bread, clothes, fruits and stationery to the women and children,” she concluded.
