A Brenthurst family was ambushed by hijackers in the driveway of their Tweedy Road home on the evening of September 5.

Police information reveals the family was leaving the residence at around 20:30 to visit a friend when the hijackers pounced.

The resident had reversed his silver-coloured Mercedes-Benz out of the yard and exited the vehicle to manually lock the gate, which was reportedly malfunctioning.

He then asked his daughter to climb onto the gate and lock it from the inside.

A maroon vehicle pulled up behind the resident’s car. A man exited from the front passenger seat and, with his face covered, pointed a firearm at the resident, motioning for him to remain silent.

A second man climbed out of the maroon vehicle and approached the resident’s car, where his fiancée was seated.

This man took the fiancée’s cellphone. She managed to escape from the vehicle. The family ran to a neighbour’s house for help. The hijackers then fled the scene in the Mercedes-Benz. Four cellphones were inside the stolen vehicle.
