Brakpan weekend crime round-up: Cable theft surges

An overview of crimes reported to Brakpan SAPS from September 19 to 21.

The following crimes were reported to Brakpan SAPS over the past weekend:

Friday – Cables were dug up and stolen along 10th Street in Withok Estates. In a separate incident, cables were cut and stolen from an area near Ergo Road in Maryvlei.

• A car parked at an address along Muir Avenue was broken into. Some cash, a bank card, ID card and a driver’s licence were stolen from the vehicle.

Before the bank card could be cancelled, it was used to make two purchases, one of which was at a liquor store.

Saturday – Cables were cut and stolen from a section of railway line near Mkhancwa Village in Maryvlei.

• Clothing, shoes, a handbag, a laptop, a cellphone and other valuables were stolen during a burglary at a residence along Morris Lane in Kenleaf.

• Batteries were stolen from three trucks parked at an address in Springs Road, Vulcania.

Sunday – A Ford Ranger was stolen from Gloucester Avenue in Dalview.

• A home along Hofmeyr Street in Brenthurst was burgled of TVs, groceries, clothing and other household items.
