Community shows up for the elderly, cleans Tweedy Park

Even some of the elderly residents rolled up their sleeves to help with the effort organised by a local.

The Clean Brakpan team along with local good Samaritan and organiser Riaan Marais, as well as some of the elderly residents of Tweedy Park Old Age Home, rolled up their sleeves on September 20 to clean the premises.

They started at 08:00, but with a joint effort the work was done quickly. The lawns on the premises were cut with a ride-on tractor belonging to Clean Brakpan, which had been repaired by Riaan, a Withok resident who frequently does his part for the community.

The Clean Brakpan team used the last of their funds to clean up Tweedy Park and is now in desperate need of donations to continue their work of keeping Brakpan beautiful.

β€œIt’s just a shame that more of the residents of Tweedy Park didn’t contribute somehow,” said Petro Brits, one of the residents that did roll up her sleeves.

β€œI can understand that people don’t have money, and many are disabled, but even if you just hold a refuse bag while someone else puts the waste in it that’s enough,” she continued.

Comment on why grass cutting and premises maintenance were not carried out has been requested from the City of Ekurhuleni, but none had been received at the time of print.
