Brakpan weight lifters to compete at world championships
Local duo, known for slap fighting, are testing their mettle in strict arm curl and free-standing curl.
Local slap-fighting heroes Pieter ‘Bulldog’ Vorster and Bobby ‘the Punisher’ Krisch are taking to the world championship stage in a different discipline – weight lifting.
The two are competing in strict arm curl and free-standing curl, representing South Africa at the world championships after qualifying through the South Africa Strict Arm Curl & Freestanding Curl Federation.
The world championships will take place on November 3 in Durban, with Bobby aiming to break the world record in his division, 100-110kg Masters 2, following his national record-breaking lift at the Dogzilla event on September 27.
Pieter, who is new to the sport, will be aiming for first place, hoping to make a strong start. He already claimed first place in his division, 140kg Masters 4, at the qualifier event held at Old Ben’s Sports Grounds in Benoni on September 27.

Both Pieter and Bobby have sponsors. Pieter has received a full sponsorship covering accommodation, transport and entry fees, but would still appreciate extra sponsorship for spending money.
Pieter specifically needs nutrition sponsorship, while Bobby needs support for fuel and food. Bobby, who started the sport a year and a half ago, said he is looking forward to the world championships.
“I only work on arms twice a week,” said Bobby. He has offered to train with Pieter to give him some pointers as he is new to the sport.
“I just enjoy the supportive environment in the sport. They help you and give you tips, and it’s well organised,” said Pieter.
To support either athlete, contact Vorster on 074 349 4526 or Krisch on 061 021 2302.
