Sherwood Gardens house robbery: Masked men tie up family, steal valuables
Two armed men wearing balaclavas invaded a Sherwood Gardens home late on Friday night, stealing jewellery, electronics and household items.
A quiet smoke break turned into a nightmare for a Sherwood Gardens man and his family as two masked men stormed their De Waal Street home on the evening of October 10.
According to police information, the man was at home with his wife and children when he stepped outside for a cigarette at around 23:30.
While outside on the patio in the dark, he was approached by two men, one from behind and the other from the front.
The intruder approaching from behind switched on a torch, shining it into the husband’s face. Both intruders were wearing balaclavas and red gloves.
Upon hearing voices, the wife came outside. The intruders pulled out cable ties and tied the couple’s hands.

They were then forced into the sitting room. Both robbers were armed with guns – one with a pistol and the other with a revolver.
They asked the couple if there were any firearms in the house, to which the husband replied that there were none.
The robbers then demanded money and jewellery, and the husband told them there was no cash in the house.
They started searching the house and took jewellery, a 9kg gas bottle, an electric frying pan, an air fryer, a sound bar, a digital video recorder, two dash cams and a small camera.

They also helped themselves to tools in the garage. The robbers then asked whether the car parked in the garage was drivable, and the husband confirmed it was.
The stolen items were loaded into the vehicle, and one robber drove off with the car, while the other remained in the house with the victims.
About 20 minutes later, the robber who had taken the car returned, and parked it back in the garage. The robbers then demanded the couple’s cellphones, and took some cash from the wife’s purse.
The victims were taken to a bedroom. After about 15 minutes had passed, they exited the bedroom and realised the robbers were gone.
While the car keys had been left behind, the robbers had taken the spare house keys. The husband sought help from neighbours. A case of house robbery is under investigation by Brakpan SAPS.
