Two motorcyclists hijacked in Brakpan within 48 hours

Hijackers targeted two motorcyclists in separate incidents in Brakpan, stealing bikes worth R45 000 in total.

Two hijackings took place in Brakpan over the weekend, with the riders of a scooter and a motorbike targeted in separate incidents.

According to police information, the first hijacking took place along New Kleinfontein Road in Leachville on the evening of October 17 when the victim fell from his scooter after driving into rope that had been pulled across the road.

The victim, riding a white Big Boy scooter, had earlier gone to visit an acquaintance in Brakpan. While riding along the road at around 20:30, he hit the rope and fell to the ground, sustaining minor injuries.

A lone hijacker made off with the scooter, valued at R18 000. An unknown individual assisted the victim after the fall.

On October 19, a delivery rider was hijacked of a white Honda motorcycle at the corner of Eric Holdtman Avenue and Carney Street in Minnebron.

The motorcycle is owned by his employer. This incident took place at about 20.15, when the driver of a bakkie overtook him and suddenly stopped, blocking his path.

The rider quickly braked, causing the motorcycle to fall. Several men then exited the bakkie, and the victim ran away.

The men loaded the motorbike on the bakkie and drove away. This stolen motorcycle is valued at R27 000. Both cases are under investigation by Brakpan SAPS.
