XKT (Xtreme Kickboxing Technologies) hosted its annual kickboxing event, The Battle in The East and The Tiny Titans, at the Brakpan Indoor Sports Centre on October 25.

President of XKT, Shihan Raymond Phillips, said this was the biggest kickboxing event after the national championships held earlier this year in KwaZulu-Natal.

“This event drew athletes from all over South Africa, including Free State, Northern Cape, Limpopo Province, Ekurhuleni, Sedibeng, North West Province, Gauteng and Mpumalanga. There were more than 270 athletes competing for gold,” he said.

XKT Brakpan not only teaches kickboxing, but also MMA, Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and self-defence.“We have a number of XKT clubs around South Africa. XKT Brakpan did exceptionally well with 23 gold, eight silver and five bronze,” said Raymond and Shihan Ryan Phillips, adding that they are very proud of the performance of their athletes.

The event consisted of different fighting modes and forms:
• Full contact high kicks
• Low kicks and K1 that allow knees
• Semi-contact (points)
• Kick light (low kicks allowed)
• Light contact (high kicks)
• Musical forms
• Weapon forms

XKT is a member of SAKA (South Africa Kickboxing Association), which is affiliated with the IOC (International Olympic Committee) and WAKO (World Association of Kickboxing Organisations). WAKO is the only IOC-recognised kickboxing organisation.
