Storm leaves most of Brakpan without power
There is no estimated repair time as yet. This is a developing story.
After the hailstorm last night (November 24) large areas of Brakpan have been without electricity. According to Freedom Front Plus PR Clr Riaan van Zyl, the problem lies with the Van Eck power station.
“I’ve spoken to the department, it’s not looking good. There is no estimated repair time and the rain is not helping. Most of Brakpan is off. I will keep you updated as I get feedback from the department,” he stated in a message sent on a WhatsApp channel.
Among the power outages, the Pebble Bridge Care Centre in Rand Collieries is in crisis, as the lack of power means that two of the elderly residents who rely on oxygen have no power to run their oxygen machines.
“The backup power is still off, and all oxygen cylinders are empty. One patient is bedridden and cannot be transported, and her oxygen levels are dropping dangerously fast,” Riaan explained.
“We urgently need anyone who can assist with a portable oxygen concentrator, oxygen cylinders, or a generator strong enough to run the oxygen equipment. Any medical oxygen support.”
