Lesufi, accompanied by City of Ekurhuleni Executive Mayor Ald Nkosindiphile Xhakaza, visited the Mngwevu family on January 20 at their Selcourt home to offer comfort and support.
Mngwevu was reported missing after the vehicle he was travelling in was swept away by severe floodwaters in Chokwé.
Addressing the media, Lesufi said authorities are still gathering information to determine Mngwevu’s whereabouts and what exactly happened.
“We remain highly hopeful that we will be able to make a breakthrough to be able to understand what happened.
Our message is simple. Let’s keep home, let’s keep faith, and let us wait for the relevant information that is needed,” Lesufi said.
Lesufi said they aim to provide support to all the families who have been affected.
“We will continue with the diplomatic channels that have been opened with the Embassy of Mozambique, our national government, the minister of international affairs, and the defence force, which is assisting us with the search mission, and ourselves as a province together with the municipality,” he said.
