Brakpan weekend crime round-up: Bakkie stripped in failed theft attempt

An overview of crimes reported to local SAPS from January 23 to 25.

The following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the past weekend:

Friday – A vehicle parked at Mall@Carnival was broken into, and a digital camera was stolen from the cubbyhole.

Saturday – A silver Toyota Etios was stolen from Mall@Carnival.

Sunday – An attempt was made to steal a Toyota Hilux parked at the corner of Essenhout and Olienhout streets in Dalpark.

A window was smashed, and the dashboard and door panels were stripped. A handbag and cellphone were stolen from the bakkie.

• A silver Toyota Yaris was stolen from Taft Avenue.

• Two security guards were threatened at gunpoint while on duty guarding a railway line near Ergo.

The incident took place at around 20:00. While patrolling the area, one of the guards felt something hit his head.

A gunman then pressed a firearm against the guard’s neck and began searching him, while another person searched his colleague.

Both of their cellphones were stolen, and the robbers demanded to know the location of their firearms. After firing a shot, the robbers fled the scene.
