Ekurhuleni warns of tender and quotation scams

The City of Ekurhuleni has issued a warning to potential bidders and suppliers following reports of fraudulent activities linked to municipal tenders and quotations.

According to the city, scammers are impersonating City of Ekurhuleni officials and attempting to deceive suppliers into sharing sensitive information or making fraudulent payments.

In some cases, the perpetrators are cloning the email addresses of city employees to send out requests for quotations (RFQs).

The municipality has stressed that it does not send RFQs directly to bidders and has urged suppliers to remain vigilant when receiving any communication claiming to be from the city.

Bidders are advised to verify all correspondence by visiting the City of Ekurhuleni offices in person or by using official contact details provided by the municipality.

The city has also warned suppliers to be alert to red flags such as unfamiliar email addresses, unusual contact numbers or unsolicited requests.

Any suspicious activity claiming to originate from the CoE should be reported immediately. For legitimate quotations below R750 000, suppliers are advised to contact Bekane Molekwa at bekane.molekwa@ekurhuleni.gov.za

For tenders above R750 000, enquiries should be directed to Siphokazi Xokozela at siphokazi.xokozela@ekurhuleni.gov.za

All suspected fraudulent activity may also be reported to ethicsinfo@ekurhuleni.gov.za

The City of Ekurhuleni has reiterated its commitment to protecting suppliers and maintaining the integrity of its procurement processes.
